Short Term Fix For A Leaking Pipe In Your Home!
create extreme changes on your water bills, negative
changes to be specific. However, fixing minor leaks is
actually easy and is something that you can manage to
do without calling a plumber. Here are some ways on
how you can repair pipe leaks by yourself.
Fixing Leaks Through Tape
This is considered to be the easiest and cheapest way
that anyone can do to fix small pipe leaks. All the
material you would need is an electrical or duct tape.
The basic principle here is that you should cover the
leak using the tape. To effectively stop the leak, you
should start wrapping the tape before the leak itself
on your water pipe. Wrap in a diagonal manner around
the pipe until you have covered the entire leaking
area and a small portion extending before and after
it.
Fixing Leaks By Epoxy
This method is best used if your leaking problem is
situated at pipe fittings and joints. You can get
epoxy from your local hardware store. First off, you
should cut off the water supply. Then you need to
drain all the water from the pipes. Water purging can
be done by letting the faucet run, until no more water
comes out.
After purging the water, dry out the pipes and clean
it using steel wool. Make sure that the pipes are dry
and clean, since applying epoxy on a wet pipe can give
unpleasant results. If you are sure, then apply the
epoxy and let it dry. Refer to the epoxy’s packaging
on how long you should let it stand to dry up. Avoid
using the pipe line if the epoxy is still wet.
Fix Leaks Through A Pipe Clamp
You can use pipe clamp to fix your leaks. However, you
should buy a clamp that has the right size to fit your
leaking pipe. Once you have purchased a clamp, clean
out your pipe. Be careful in cleaning it, and make
sure that you do this well. Wrap your pipe in a rubber
pad which should be placed over the area where the
leak is.
When you have the pad in place, put the pipe clamp
over it and screw the clamp securely. If you have
somewhat moderate leaks, you can also use this method
to stop them.
Fixing Leaks Through Hose Clamps
Using a host clamp is kind of similar to using a pipe
clamp. However, this is to be only used on smaller
leaks. You can start by wrapping the pipe with a
rubber pad. Once the pad is placed over the leaking
area, put one or two hose clamps over it and tighten
the pad by securely screwing it.
Fixing Leaks Through C-Clamps and Blocks
If your pipe is of a small size, then you can make use
of a small sized c-clamp to patch it. Start by placing
a rubber pad directly on top of the leak. After that,
put a small wooden strip or block on top of it. Get
the c-clamp and place it over the fixture to hold
everything on place. You use the blocks as protection
for the pipe from the pressure given by the c-clamp.
Fixing Leaks Using Tin Can Clamps
Here, what you would need is a tin can. Start off by
cutting the ends off the can and cutting it up one
side. Get the half of the can and bend its ends so
that they are flat and could meet. This is like a
homemade pipe clamp.
Get a rubber pad and place it over your leak. Above
the rubber pad, place your homemade clamp. A c-clamp
and wooden blocks can also be used to tighten the
fixture.
These are best if they are used for a short time fix.

Solar Energy-The Future Of Generating Energy For The Home.
Whenever possible, the panels will be installed facing south to get the most out of the sunlight but tracking systems are also used to follow the direction of the sun. The solar panels collect the energy from the sunlight. The process basically is that when the panels are exposed to sunlight, the electrons are separated from the atoms. This movement of the electrons creates electricity.
To store power, pumps are often used -circulating water in the cells. The water goes into a storage tank where the power is stored, ready for use. Sometimes, the use of gravity is employed if it will just get the same store of the heated water into the tank.
In spite of all the development in solar energy though, the use of this technology is not enough to provide power to the whole house. The best method so far can only fulfill about 80% of a households power needs. The employment of solar energy for the home will still require the use of the conventional power distribution method.
Powering the homes by solar means will still, for a while be augmented by a local power distribution agency. To many, this is already a good starting point. Homeowners that feel that the high cost of powering their houses through solar power, is justified when compared to the price that is now being paid for conventional electrification method where horrendous amount of co2 are being dumped into the atmosphere just to generate a pitiful amount of electricity.
However, due in part to the rising costs of energy, the technology for solar energy has been undergoing rapid phases of development. Experts are confident that within five years, powering the home through the solar method will be made widely available for those who prefer it as it's solo energy source.

16 Interior Design Ideas For Small Homes And Appartments
1. Hang the window treatments as high up as possible on the wall. From the ceiling down to the floor. This makes the room look taller than it might be and it draws the eyes upward, for a feeling of more volume to the room.
2. If you can add built-ins shelves (some with doors and some without ) this gives you much needed storage space without taking up floor space. It is a good place for your electronic, to hide all the wires ( tv, dvd player, stereo.)
3. When buying furnishing - look for things that might do double duty. Here are some examples: * End tables that also have a place to store things in as well.
* A sofa bed, for guests to sleep on if needed. A hide a bed is out of the way until it is needed, then it poles down when it is needed. Great for spare bedroom.
* An ottoman can be used for extra places to sit, to set things down on them. Some even open up so that you could store a blanket in (for when you get cold).
* A bench that has storage space in it as well. More seating and storage at the same time.
4. Open up one room to another. This makes both seem larger than they are. Some rooms still need to be private, like the bathroom and bedrooms. Here are some examples of how to do this:
* The simplest way would be if there is a door - take it out.
* Change the door form a solid door to one that has glass pains in it. This lets you see from one room to an other. This also lets the light from one room into the other to brighten both.
* If you can enlarge the doorway, make it into an archway. This opens up both rooms, but they still are defined as two separate spaces. It gives the illusion of having more space.
5. Extend the flooring from one room into the other. ( If it is hardwood floors, have the length of the wood go in the direction of the other room - it pulls the eye into that room as well.) This gives continuity to both rooms.
6. The paint color of the two rooms needs to be similar. One room lighter or darker in the same color than the other room -two different shades of green for example. ( On the paint swatch that you get from the store, they come with more than one shade of the same color. Pick one shade for one room then pick 1 or 2 shades lighter or darker from that one for the other room.)
7. Choose colors that are lighter for smaller rooms. If you get the rooms to dark than the room feels like it is closing in on you. Do not forget the ceiling, they can be painted the some color as the walls or paint them a lighter color than the walls.
8. These are some things that add a great look to any room.
* Crown molding - lifts the eyes up. Use stain or a crisp white to make them pop. If you are using the same color on the ceiling and walls this is a good way to give separation to them.
* Vertical striped also help a room look taller. It can be wallpaper or stripes that are panted on. The stripes that are painted on can be done in a bold way with using two different colors or a more mild way by using the same color but one is flat paint and the other stripe is a high gloss paint.
9. If you have a nice sized screened in porch, a patio or a sun room, then you have more living space. Treat them like an other room. Art on the wall (make sure that it is weather resistant if it is out doors ), chairs to sit on, table to eat on and do not forget lights of some kind. This adds value to your home.
10. Scale the furniture to the size of the room. If the furniture is to big for the room it will make it look cluttered and crowded. Use one larger piece of furniture in the room to give a little weight to the room. No wimpy rooms here.
11. Is there a focal point in the room? A fireplace, a bay window are good focal points. Make them stand out. Paint a different color on the fireplace or on the wall around the fireplace to make it stand out. The bay window use the window treatments to help it stand out. If you do not have these, make a focal point for yourself. Use the large piece of furniture like a sofa, put it in the place that you see it as soon as you walk into the room. In a dinning room - a very nice table and chairs.
These are the things that you should not do.
12. Do not overwhelm the room with to much furniture. Less is more when it comes to small spaces. It only makes the room look cluttered.
13. Do not forget to make your architectural detailing stand out. Crown molding draws your eye up, but only if it stands out. Using the crisp white or the nice stains do a good job with this. Chair railing, wainscoting, baseboards and other things like this should not be forgotten as well. These things add interest to the room. If they are not standing out then they add nothing.
14. Do not use to many patterns in a small room. Use them as accents, they will pop more without making the room to overwhelmed with patterns.
15. Do not let even an inch of space go without the best use possible. In the top of the closet or cupboard can you add an other shelf for more storage? The back of the door can be used for storage of shoes in the closet. Pantry door can hold more food stuff.
16. Do not forget to use closet organizers so that you can use every inch that you have. Go though the things that you have, weed things out so that you can have the room that you need (give things to charity or thrift stores, this helps others out as well as yourself.)
To summarize, find furniture that do double duty, built-ins that add storage. Find things that help you to organize closets, cupboards, pantry. Use all the space available to you in the best way possible. We would like to hear how you use your space to the best way possible. Others are looking for ways to do that for themselves. Let us have your comments that others might benefit from what you have done.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CURB APPEAL FOR THE SELLER OR THE BUYER
If you are selling, some of these things can not be changed - that makes it harder to sell. If you are thinking of buying - do you want to live by them. It makes it harder when wanting to sell?
These are some of the reasons that curb appeal is so important.
Now for the curb appeal of the house that you have to sell or the one that you are looking to buy. It is important as well. Is there a mixture of lawn, trees, bushes and flowers? Is it well thought out in the placement of the plants? Are trees to close to the house? Are they the kind of plants that will take a lot of water and you live in a desert environment? ( It might be best to change them out for plant from your area that are more drought tolerant.) If you can not see the house because the bushes that are next to the house are over grown - trim them back to let the beauty of the house show through.
Why is curb appeal so important? If you are trying to sell - it could be the difference between someone driving by without even looking at the house or coming in to look at the it.
If the house is in need of repairs - do them before putting the house on the market. People will offer less when they know that they will have to fix this and that when they buy it. You will not get top dollar for it if you do not do what needs to be done. That includes burned out light bulbs. The thought will be, "if they can not fix that what else will I need to fix when I move in here."
Does your house look just like all the other houses on the block? What can you do to make it stand out from the rest? Maybe it is as little as painting the front door RED. Add an arch way across you front side walk or a picket fence when the rest have none. For night time add out door lights to light up the side walk or drive way. Light up the address of your house to make it easy to find. Do not forget to add some color into the yard, if it is all green shade - grass, trees, bushes, add some colorful flowers to brighten it up.
Are there things about the outside of the house that make it look dated? Is it something that can be replaced or taken off the house, then do it. Are there things that night be an eye soar to look at in the front of the house? Can it be moved some were else? ( Like a window air conditioner) Can it be hidden behind a screen or something to make it look more pleasing?
Do yourself a favor when you think of putting your home on the market - go find the free home buyers magazine. In my area the names of a few of them are " Home choice magazine" or "Your next home magazine", they might be different where you live. You have seen racks of them at the grocery store and other places. Look at them, see the houses that catch your eye. What do you like about it? What makes it stand out to you? That some kind of thing is what is going to make your home stand out to someone else. Also notice the ones that you do not like? Why do you not like that one? If your house is pink - a man is not going to like it to much, you might want to think of a more neutral color that will appeal to more people. You like it but not everyone does. You want a good number of people to look at your home. Look at your home from the buyers perspective. Does your house meet the test. If it does not, it will sit on the market for a long time.
Once you have the outside in good shape, do not let them down on the inside. Have it be as appealing on the inside as the outside. If the house appeals to as many people as possible - you will get more people to look at it. It will sell faster and for a higher price. That is the goal is it not?
For the buyer, they want a good value for there money. They do not want to over pay for what they get. If they are looking for a fixer upper they are not wanting to pay top dollar for it when they are going to have to put a lot of money into it as well.
A real estate agent can give you some pointers about what you might need to change to make it look better and sell faster. They see a lot of house, they know what has been selling and what has not. Do the fix up things that you know need to be done, then ask a real estate agent.
I would be interested in how curb appeal help you sell your home. If you were buying how did it affect your choices on a house to see or buy?

TWO THING TO PUT AT THE TOP OF YOUR RENOVATION LIST OF THINGS TO DO
1. Replacing the electrical wiring. If wiring is old it could start a fire, for safety it is best to replace it. So if you are renovating - plan it in up front for updating the wiring. If you are doing a kitchen and you do not update the wiring - with the big fridge, the dishwasher, other smaller appliances, can the old wiring handle it all or will you keep blowing the breakers all the time? It gets very frustrating when it happens all the time. Do you have enough outlets and in the places that you need them to be in that will work best for you?
2. Lighting is next on the list. The electrician will need to know for putting in the wiring for the lighting. There are three kinds of lighting for the room:
A. Main lighting
B. Task lighting
C. Ambiance lighting
If the lighting is not what it should be, it is like being in a cave. It is not very inviting to be in that room. Sometimes it even affects how you can function in the room.
Both of these things it is best to have an electrician do for you. They know what code for your area are and the best way to do things. This makes your home safer as well. Make sure that the cost is in the budget for the electrician. The placement of wiring and lighting is easier done without sheetrock up. So if you are renovating and the walls are down to the studs, this is the best time for doing both the wiring and lighting. It is best to get them worked out ahead of time so you do not delay the construction or have to redo it later after the other work is all done.

WHY YOU NEED A GOOD HOME INSPECTOR
If you have someone that knows what they are looking for and know what they are doing. ( Ask how long they have been doing home inspections, if it is there first house. They may not be the one to go with.) They can identify problems areas. Then you can decide what you want to do. If it is a really big problem or something that will be easy to fix.
If the inspector finds problems, there are three ways to deal with it:
* ask the seller to fix it.
* get estimates on the cost to fix it and ask the seller to reduce the price that much so you can fix it yourself.
* get out of the deal all the way and look for an other place to buy, if it is a really big problem that the inspector finds.
These are a few of the things that an inspector should look at:
* The condition of the electrical wiring in the house.
* The pluming.
* Check for signs of water in the basement or other places that it should not be in.
* Check the foundation.
* The condition of the roof, vent pipes and anything else that is on the roof.
* That everything is up to code.
These are but a few of the things the inspector should check. Just remember it will take some time to check all of these things ( an hour or more).

EIGHT FINANCING TIPS FOR BUYING A HOME
A. This way you know that if the house that you like does not qualify for FHA loan you are ready with the conventional loan that you can use.
B. You know before looking the price range that you would qualify for. Buyers like this they know that you are ready to buy now not just looking, to be looking.
2. Also find out about insurance for a home in this price range. You will know how much it will cost you. The bank will want to know that it is insured. If you do not they will tack it on ( that could cost you a lot more than getting it yourself.)
3. Expect the unexpected when it comes to getting the money for a house.
4. Have extra money saved up for add on things that might come up.
5. Get a copy of all the paperwork that you will be having to sign, they should let you have that the day before. Read them over, so that you know what you will be signing. If you have questions make note of them.
6. Make sure that all your questions are answered before signing the papers.
7. Make your appointment early in the day. It will take sometime to get everything signed. You do not want to be rushed, because it is 4:00 and they want to go home. Everyone is tired at 4:00 in the afternoon. That is why I say early in the day.
8. If you know that the windows will need to be replaced. Get estimates on how much it would be. (this is an example) This could be something that is added into the loan up front. Get the estimates and ask up front before starting the loan process. Do not wait till the day of the signing and ask, it probably will not happen then. (Replacing the windows adds more value to the house, so there is a greater chance that they will say yes to that as well.)

"SO YOU WANT TO REMODEL YOUR KITCHEN" BY AARON J. MUNK
Beginner's Guide: So You Want To Remodel Your Kitchen
Copyright (c) 2008 Aaron J. Munk
SeeItYourWay
http://www.seeityourway.com
Renovating your kitchen can seem daunting, but if you break this
big project down into smaller steps, you can ensure that the
vision you have for your new space will be achieved.
1. Find your style. Stimulate your creativity by checking out how
the professionals do it. Look through magazines and keep photos
of style elements that you like in a binder. With the many
do-it-yourself websites, the Internet is always a good source for
inspiration.
While you are browsing, think about how you want to use your new
space. How many people plan to use the kitchen? Do you entertain?
Do you need room for children to do homework at a computer? Do
you prefer a formal space or do you have a more casual style? Is
your kitchen just for cooking or is it the gathering place for
your family and friends?
Also think about the style of the rest of your home and how the
new kitchen will fit in. All of these style elements you collect
will be helpful to show your vision to the contractor and keep
you both on track.
2. Set a budget. We all wish we could have everything we want.
However, for most of us, we need to choose where to spend our
money to get the most value. Granite counter tops might be a “must
have” for some, while someone else might want to put their money
into specialized appliances.
You may need to think about how long you’ll be living in this
home. If you’re going to be there five years or less, the remodel
could be viewed as improvements on your investment.
Whatever your budget, make sure you include labor costs and a 10%
contingency for those unexpected expenses. And, have a plan to
keep track of all the costs - maybe a spreadsheet - so you can
compare your actual costs to your budgeted amounts.
3. Find and hire a Contractor. The best way to find a qualified
professional is through referrals from family and friends. You
can get first hand information on how the contractor worked and
if there were any problems.
There are two types of contractors you can hire - General
contractors and Subcontractors. General contractors will oversee
every aspect of your remodeling project and he or she will
usually hire the subcontractors. Subcontractors for a kitchen
remodel can include Tile Contractors, Plumbers, Electricians,
Painters, Cabinet installers, to name a few.
If your budget is tight, you may have to oversee all the
subcontractors yourself. Always compare quotes from at least
three different prospects and always work with licensed
professionals who have insurance.
Interview all candidates, check their references and ask to see
some completed projects. It’s important that you are comfortable
with the person and you are both able to communicate with each
other.
After you’ve narrowed it down, take a look at their documents.
Everything should be in writing and look professional - including
a bid price and a payment schedule, the scope of work and a site
plan. Decide in advance how you will handle disputes and get that
in writing as well. Along the way, there may be design changes
initiated by you or the contractor. Make sure these are in
writing as well and understood by both parties.
4. Obtain your Kitchen Design Plans. There are different ways to
do this important step. If your renovation is complex, you may
need to hire an architect. If not, most home stores have computer
aided design programs, which allow you to see how the store’s
kitchens would look in your home. Or, you could buy one of the
many home design programs and see your remodel on your own
computer.
Some of the free online programs can even give you a list of your
choices and vendors in your area who sell the products you want.
This could save many trips to the store and countless headaches.
Knowing your cooking style and the appliances you want is
something to consider. Also, selecting the flooring, counter tops,
sinks, and faucets that fit your lifestyle and budget. Last, but
certainly not least, select the lighting for your kitchen,
keeping in mind that no single light source can light the entire
kitchen.
There are many decisions to be made and having your favorite
style elements handy in your binder will keep you on track and
make some of the decisions easier.
5. Be proactive. Inspect what’s going on regularly. During the
work, make sure that both you and the contractor follow the
written plans. Be clear and honest with any issues you have and
try to meet once a day to discuss progress and budget and
schedule concerns. Having this meeting might save work stoppages
and panic phone calls along the way.
Your partnership with your contractor will be the key to the
success or failure of your project, so maintain a productive work
environment by keeping the lines of communication open.
These steps can help make your renovations a little easier, but
realize that unexpected things happen. Relax, take a deep breath,
be flexible and soon you’ll be enjoying your beautiful new
kitchen.

3 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME ENERGY WISE.
Choosing the right windows
* Look for the energy star symbol
* How easy are they to clean from the inside?
* Is the installer licensed and has no complaints against them?
2. The next way would be to add insulation to your Attic and walls
Choosing insulation
* Different parts of the country need more insulation than others, the colder areas need more - that is only reasonable.
* Is the installer licensed and has no complaints against them?
3. Keep drafts from coming around the door, with weather stripping.
When looking for new homes look for the energy star to see if the house will be energy wise or not.
The energy star label was created by the environmental protection agency (EPA) and the U.S. department of energy (DOE) to help consumers quickly and easily identify windows and other products that save energy.
Now it is time for you to do the energy wise things. I would like to hear what you did to make it better for you and your home. Leave a comment. I would like to hear from you.

12 THINGS YOU SHOULD DO WHEN BUILDING A HOUSE
2. Have the plains made that will be right for the lot. If you do not, it will cost you a lot more trying to put the wrong house on the lot.
3. Have your financing in place ahead of time, be pre-approved.
4. Check out the contractor, are they licenced? Do they have complaints against them with the better business burrow? Get references and check them out. If you do not fallow though, It could cost you a lot - maybe more than money.
5. Make sure that the blue prints of your house plans are all worked out.
6. This is something that will help you stay on time and on budget. Have things picked out ahead of time. What will the out side be made out of, the color. Each and every room needs to have every thing picked out before hand. If this is done you will know what things will cost, what it will look like. You can look for bargains. Think of materials that might be less expensive, but more durable and easy to keep up. For example in the bathroom choose: the toilet, tub, sink, lighting, what is going on the wall and the colors, floor covering, electrical covers (light switches), window treatment, shower curtain, tiles, faucets, crown molding, base boards. Pick every thing from floor to ceiling.
7. Think about how it will be to maintained it. How much will it coast over the years to keep it maintained? Could a different choice be less expensive to maintain?
8. Is it easy to clean? For example: windows, can you clean them from the inside?
9. How energy efficient is your house going to be? This can cost you a lot of money over the years if the house is not energy efficient. What one would you rather have? One that saves you money over the years or one that does not.
10. YOU pay the subcontractors that way you know that it gets done and have the receipts. You do not want to pay twice. ( If the contractor is paid and is to pay the subcontractors, but does not pay them. Then you are the one that has to pay again or the subcontractor can put a lean on your house. That coasts you a lot.)
11. PLAN, PLAN,PLAN, the more you have planned ahead of time the less problems you are likely to have later.
12. Getting the house finished on time and on budget is your goal. It helps the pocket book as well. That is where the planing comes in. You get what you want for the price that you want. The bank likes it better also.

STAGING A HOME FOR TRYING TO SELL YOUR HOME.
Make sure that you give them enough time to do what they need to do. Then plan for the open house after they are done. If you invest in staging, it could help you sell you home for the most that you can get.
It does have a cost, so make sure that it is really going to benefit you. The bigger cities have this service more than the smaller cities. It might not be available in all areas.
This can help to sell the house faster. It is harder to sell an empty house. It is harder for the buyer to envision what the house would look like with out furniture in the house. That is why staging the home is important.
If you think that you would like to learn how to do staging. Check out this website: www.haverhill.com .
If you like watching tv and need some ideas on what to do with your home, watch HGTV they have all kinds of different shows from buying a home, up dating a room or more, ect. They also have a website go to: http://hgtv.com
